About NameThat
A small collection of guessing games built around one idea: how little of something do you actually need to recognise it?
The idea
NameThat started with the music quiz — a track clipped down to a tenth of a second — and grew into four games that all reward recognising something fast and from very little:
- Guess the Song — name a track from a split-second of audio.
- Draw & Guess — one player sketches, everyone else races to guess the word.
- Word Game — two teams, one-word clues, find your agents and dodge the assassin.
- Guess Who — a pixelated face that slowly sharpens.
Free, account-free, privacy-friendly
There is no sign-up and no email. Your streaks and stats live on your device behind two strictly necessary cookies. Public leaderboards show a nickname you can change, never a real name, and you can hide yourself entirely. No advertising, no analytics, no third-party tracking.
Where the content comes from
Music preview clips come from Deezer and photos of people from Wikimedia Commons under free licences. The size silhouettes are our own artwork. Full details are in the imprint and privacy policy.
Status
NameThat is a non-commercial prototype and still evolving — new categories and refinements land regularly.
Frequently asked questions
Is NameThat really free?
Yes. No ads, no paywalls, no in-app purchases. It is a non-commercial project with no revenue.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no login, no email and no registration. Two strictly necessary cookies keep your streak, stats and language choice on your device — nothing else.
Does NameThat track me?
No web tracking, no analytics services, no advertising cookies, and no cookie consent wall — because there is nothing to consent to beyond two strictly necessary cookies (game progress and language).
Can I play on my phone?
Yes, everything runs in a mobile browser. The multiplayer games work across phones, tablets and laptops in the same lobby.
